Downtown NYC, especially NoHo has always been a favorite for engagement photos. I recently wrote a blog post about my favorite downtown NYC locations for engagements. It has such interesting, lively settings. Each and every block in this part of NYC is fun and adds plenty of visual “texture” for portraits. Another great thing about this part of Manhattan is that the buildings aren’t super tall. So we get more interplay with the sunlight spilling over apartment buildings and trees. The shadows aren’t as deep and dark as they’d be in the midst of taller buildings and high rise office buildings.
Relax and Show Some Love in Your NYC Engagement Photos
One of main reasons why engagement sessions are so important is for you to get comfy being photographed. You’ll soon be dressed up with all eyes on you for your wedding day. So please relax for your engagement photos. And please don’t be afraid to show some love and tenderness. These may be the only photos you’ll ever have of this time in your relationship.

Bring a Second Outfit or Look
As always, I’d suggested to Elizabeth and Daniel to bring a second “look” for their photos. So we started out with the white lace dress and high heels for her and this cool-casual outfit for him. Wear high heels if you like! But since we’ll be walking on the streets and sidewalks of NYC for your engagement photos, bring some comfortable shoes too. We walked westward on multiple little side streets in the East Village/Cooper Square area and then in NoHo. And as you can see, there is plenty of diversity on just a few blocks.

Let NYC Inspire Your Engagement Photos
The graffiti, the yellow taxi cabs, the unique architecture each provide a creative boost. Environmental portraits, like engagement sessions, are never boring in NYC. Even though I’ve been to this downtown neighborhood many times, it’s never the same.
