What’s the deal with Micro Weddings, Elopements, and Intimate Weddings?

Over the last few years more and more people are opting to have smaller and smaller weddings. Various terms are used but basically an Elopement is just the two of you. A Micro or Mini Wedding includes just a few guests. And an Intimate Wedding will have up to 3-4 dozen guests. And typically the ceremony, portraits, and lovely meal afterward all take place in less than 4 hours. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many of these weddings and here are my thoughts:

An intimate wedding gives you time to go slowly and take it all in.

You can actually spend time with each other and each guest. Basically you get more time. TIME. That’s what we all want right? To live our lives more slowly. You’ve probably heard of the slow food  movement. I’m currently checking out a book entitled Slow Knitting. The point is, can’t we just enjoy the process and not rush to some version of “the end”? When will we have the courage to ditch the idea that we have to do our lives copying and pasting from someone else’s life? Hm?

Photographing these small weddings is such a joy! Celebrating with the closest, bestest, and dearest…. Every moment is infused with real emotion and authenticity. Practically speaking they’re less expensive; less time-consuming to plan; and you get less guest-related drama. And somehow, and I really can’t think of a better way to say this, a small wedding sweetly snuggles in very nicely, very naturally with your normal life.

These are from a few that I’ve photographed around New York City. Enjoy!
